V&L was established in 1976 as a partnership under the name “V&L Enterprises” and was Federally incorporated in 1982 under its present name, V&L Information Resources Corp.
The Company was initially established to address Canadian Librarians’ needs for a one-stop source for acquisitions of all reference materials. Historically, acquisitions has comprised one of the most time-consuming aspects of a Librarian’s duties. The process of administering to multiple suppliers to source titles, order from, follow-up with, return to, and remit to occupies a considerable amount of a Librarian’s time and involves a real corporate cost. V&L was established to provide an acquisitions service to address specifically these needs for a single one-stop vendor for all reference materials as well as an effective channel to cut costs associated with acquisitions, and to further enhance the service, by providing customized and comprehensive information reports for better control and management of the acquisitions process.
V&L, has since expanded its scope to service all Government, Corporate and Educational institutions, at all levels, including: Special and Public Libraries, Corporations, Purchasing Departments, Schools, School Boards, Non-Profit Organizations, and Research Institutions.
The range of materials supplied has also expanded to incorporate ALL reference materials in ALL available formats from ALL publishers worldwide.
V&L currently deals with over 5,000 active publishers worldwide and has a regular client-base of over 2000 Canada-wide Government, Corporate and Educational institutions and Libraries; along with over 2000 associated individuals and departments from organizations across Canada.
Adapting And Pioneering
Additionally, to meet an increasing demand for associated individuals, departments and branches to do their own buying directly, V&L has further expanded its role by administering to Credit cards and Corporate Purchasing cards and has pioneered simple and effective systems for corporations to manage such processes. V&L has, over the years, advised and worked in partnership with numerous large and small organizations to develop, implement and administer effective systems to accommodate new corporate buying structures tailored to particular needs, and has provided greater cost savings while maintaining V&L’s trademark high level of service.
